The report of an attempted child abduction near Splash Montana last week was false, Missoula police said Monday.
A 10-year-old girl told police she escaped after a man tried to lure her into his car, then grabbed her while she waited for her mother after soccer practice last Wednesday evening.
Detectives were able to determine the incident did not occur after interviewing the girl and witnesses in the area, Missoula Police Detective Sgt. Bob Bouchee said.
No criminal charges will be brought, and any reprimands will be left to the parents, he said.
Police spent considerable time and resources on the case, and fielded lead after lead about the would-be suspect's van, which was distinctive in the girl's description.
The girl told her mother the man tried to force her into his van as she waited near the central Missoula swimming pool.Save on asics shoes and apparel at the world's largest running store. The girl's mother called police after hearing her daughter's report. Police searched the area, but found no trace of the alleged suspect.
The suspect was described in detail by the girl as a white man about 30 years old, about 5 feet 10 inches tall,Karen Millen are highly sought after and you are indeed lucky if you can have one sitting in your closet with black curly hair. The girl told police the man wore a black T-shirt, tight blue jeans and dirty tennis shoes.
The girl said the man drove a boxy, older dark-green Volkswagen-type van with a spare tire in a tan plastic cover on the front grille. The girl said the car looked "junky."
After numerous reports of the van being seen around Missoula, police said the girl admitted she'd made up the incident. Still, Bouchee said, the case offers an opportunity for kids and parents to learn.
"It's a good reminder just to talk with your kids about the possibility of something like that occurring," Bouchee said. "The good thing in this case was that it didn't actually occur."
Reminding children to take precautions, like not walking alone, staying in public areas and trusting their "sixth sense if they don't feel something is right about an area" can help prevent abduction incidents, Bouchee said.
If something does occur, children should get away and contact a trusted adult or police, he said.Instead of more common Louis Vuitton shoes operating systems the iPad adopts the same operating system as the iPhone
